Islamic State says US 'being run by an idiot'

Iraqi and US -led global coalition officials have repeatedly warned that after Mosul, ISIS will likely return to its insurgent roots as it loses more territory in both Iraq and neighboring Syria.

Since taking office, Trump has made defeating ISIS a priority as forces backed by the United States fight to reclaim Mosul in Iraq and Raqqa in Syria two ISIS strongholds, Reuters reports.

The Islamic State group shot down an Iraqi helicopter that was supporting federal police forces in Mosul, killing two crew members, the military said today.

The government has urged residents not to flee during the fighting - a policy aimed at easing the burden of widespread displacement but which can heighten the risk of injury or death for civilians.

The joint operations force said the aircraft was conducting operations in eastern parts of the city, where government forces, the Kurdish Peshmerga and global allies are battling to dislodge jihadis.

The airstrike destroyed the headquarters and killed dozens of the group's militants and some of its foreign leaders, including Saudi, Australian and French nationals, according to the statement.

The improved weather should also allow ground forces to resume their advance toward the Grand al-Nuri Mosque, where Baghdadi, declared a "caliphate" almost three years ago over parts of Iraq and Syria.

The insurgents are putting up a stiff and fierce resistance in the remaining district under their control in northwestern Mosul and the densely populated Old City.

An Islamic State group spokesman called for countries attacking it to be targeted, in an audio recording in which he also insulted US President Donald Trump.

"There is no more evidence than [that] you being run by an idiot who does not know what Syria or Iraq or Islam is", he added.

Islamic State fighters are using children as human shields to deter airstrikes from the USA and the Iraqi Security Forces, BBC News reports.
