Former Trump adviser claims Obama targeted him as a 'dissident'

If the Post report is correct, US officials convinced a FISA court judge during the presidential campaign that there is probable cause that Page was "knowingly" working as an agent of a foreign government while advising Trump.
In fact in 2013, the FBI was investigating whether Vladimir Putin's government was trying to recruit Americans when Page's name surfaced in the probe.
Shortly after Trump secured the Republican Party's presidential nomination, though, experts in foreign policy circles began to express concerns about Page's pro-Russia rhetoric, saying he had "little real understanding about U.S. -Russia relations" and "may be compromised by his investment in Russian energy giant Gazprom", which has always been controlled by Vladimir Putin's Kremlin.
The warrant sought to investigate Page's ties to both the Trump campaign and the Russian government, both of whom have been accused of cooperating with one another to influence the 2016 USA presidential election. 'I have nothing to hide'. However, at a White House news conference in February, Trump said he doesn't think he ever met Page in person, according to CNN. Despite growing revelations about contact between members of his campaign and the Russians, Donald Trump and his staff repeatedly deny any wrongdoing or collusion. He adds that those of us who criticized these tweets owe President Trump an apology.
The official admitted that Page could have written policy memos for the campaign, but his name was only on a list of supposed advisors because of a recommendation from Sam Clovis, an Iowa conservative now working in Trump's Department of Agriculture.
I agree with John that there may well be a scandal associated with the Obama administration's actions towards Donald Trump and his campaign last Fall, as well as its actions after Trump prevailed.
Applications for FISA warrants, Comey said, are often thicker than his wrists, and that thickness represents all the work Justice Department attorneys and FBI agents have to do to convince a judge that such surveillance is appropriate in an investigation. He said he served as a Trump adviser until September 2016 and resigned because "these stories kept coming out". This can't be anything but a warning shot from the intelligence community.
The court filings include a transcript of Podobnyy speaking with Igor Sporyshev, who was also charged in the spy ring, about Page. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), a top Trump confidant who became his attorney general, attended one meeting of the group with Page in late summer, the campaign adviser said. However, I don't think any evidence has been found to support Trump's contentious tweet, and I believe criticism of that tweet remains fair.
In interviews as recently as February, Page had said the Federal Bureau of Investigation had not questioned him, but in his CNN interview he declined to answer. "You get the documents from him and tell him to go f-- himself".
"There had been prior reports, but I was so happy to hear that further confirmation is now being revealed", Page said.
Meanwhile CNN reported that recent intelligence reports brought to light by a Republican Congressman Devin Nunes did not show, as Mr Nunes alleged, that the Obama administration combed intelligence intercepts to find information about Mr Trump and his team.
