Ex-Giants wideout Louis Murphy arrested at airport on felony gun charge

Former Buccaneers wide receiver Louis Murphy was arrested Wednesday morning at Tampa International Airport for carrying a concealed firearm, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

The Tampa Bay Times reported that Murphy, 29, was arrested at 9:10 a.m.by Tampa International Airport Police and released on $2,000 bond at 2:45 p.m. Airport security discovered Murphy had a Glock 23 pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition in his backpack when he attempted to go through a checkpoint, according to ESPN.

No additional information about the nature of the arrest was immediately available.

A fourth-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Murphy has also spent time with the Oakland Raiders and Carolina Panthers.

Murphy made headlines a year ago after he was locked inside a museum during a friend's wedding reception.

Murphy, 29, last suited up in an National Football League game in 2015 before his second season with the Bucs was cut short because of a torn ACL. He broke a window in an attempt to get out, but was ultimately forced to call 911 for help.

Murphy appeared in 14 games with no starts for the Giants in 2013, catching six passes for 37 yards and a touchdown.
