Ed Sheeran gave special thanks to the people of Galway on Instagram

Singer Ed Sheeran likes to keep it real when he shoots his music videos.

But unbeknownst to most of the fans eager to catch a glimpse of the chart-topping singer, Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan and Love/Hate stars Peter Coonan and Laurence Kinlan - Fran and Elmo - were also in tow.

"Galway Girl" follows lead singles 'Castle On The Hill' and 'Shape Of You' in receiving the video treatment.

Shooting in various locations, Sheeran made sure to stop by the local O'Connors pub to film a few scenes as fans got a little sneak peek of the video.

In other news, Ed's 2017 United Kingdom arena tour, which just got underway this week, has attracted a record number of ticket requests. "I never really said this song is about her".

Following the release of Sheeran's new album ÷ (Divide) last month, the question on everyone's lips while listening to the record was - who was the mystery Galway Girl?

Sheeran has a deep affinity with County Galway, having previously busked on Shop Street a teenager. I suppose I was in front of him so he just wrote a song about what was in front of him so that was how it came about. "I've got a trad band called Beoga, they're actually from Belfast".
