Charlie Murphy Dies Of Leukemia At 57

TMZ reports he died in a New York City hospital. He had been undergoing chemotherapy for leukemia. Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories helped make Chappelle a household name during the peak of the second season of his show.

Most recently, Charlie was touring with Cedric the Entertainer, Eddie Griffin, George Lopez and D.L. Hughley as part of "The Comedy Get Down Tour".

Though it's been just moments since news of Murphy's death was announced, the comic is already the number one trending topic on Twitter, with numerous legends of entertainment paying tribute to a man that many consider one of the great comedic minds of his day.

The episode became one of the show's most well-known bits.

His writing credits include several of his brother's films like Norbit, and his acting credits include Are We There Yet, Boondocks and more.

Murphy's feature films include "Our Family Wedding", "King's Ransom" and "CB4".

In addition to his work as a stand-up comedian, Charlie Murphy is probably best known for his role in Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show. "I took it as a personal crusade until they were like 'You're a little overzealous in how you're performing your job.' So that's how I ended up not doing [security] anymore", Murphy said.

He is survived by his three children; his wife Tisha passed away as the result of her own battle with cancer in 2009.
