Lexus' F Sport moniker makes its way to the company's 2018 LS 500 sedan at the NY auto show this week.
That's all well and good, but there's one thing bugging us about the new F Sport-why isn't Lexus offering it with the 5.0-liter V8 from all of its other performance-minded models? The LS 500 and LS 500h hybrid will both be available as F Sport models.
On rear-drive gas-powered LS 500 models, a new Handling Package is also available that gives the full-sized sedan variable gear ratio steering and active rear steering along with an active stabilizer and a sport-tuned air suspension.
The Lexus LS 500 F Sport adds styling cues such as a tweaked grille, rocker panel, trunk moldings, 20-inch wheels and lots of F Sport badges inside and out.
If you'd like, you can order your LS F Sport's interior in the exclusive Circuit Red color, perhaps to signal that underneath your banker's exterior, you've got a bit of the bosozoku lurking.
The F SPORT persona shines throughout the cabin, starting with the F SPORT-exclusive front seat, which provides enhanced support for dynamic driving.
As well as larger 245/45 front and 275/40 rear tyres, the standard car's brakes have been beefed up by the edition of larger 6-piston front calipers and 4 pistons on the rear. Lexus says the designers adjusted 7,100 individual surfaces to achieve the desired look and texture, compared to 5,000 for the standard grille. An F Sport steering wheel also features, as do instruments derived from those in the LFA supercar. "And when combined with the sporty enlarged side grille, it is functional as well, helping to maintain the vehicle's cooling performance". The result is a full-size premium luxury sedan that responds more like a sports coupe through curves, helping to underline what F SPORT stands for. The LS 500 is undeniably quick, with a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds (gas RWD).
The accelerator, brake, and footrest get aluminum trim, and there's an F SPORT shift handle.
No changes are made to the powertrains, which means the LS 500 continues with its 415-horsepower twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 and the LS 500h with its 354-hp 3.5-liter V-6-based hybrid setup.
The hybrid packs a 3.5-litre petrol V6 and a pair of electric motors, which juggle power through a "Multi Stage Hybrid Transmission".
