US aircraft carrier-led strike group headed towards Korean Peninsula

Chinese President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart, Donald Trump, pledged on Friday to expand mutually beneficial cooperation and to manage their differences based on mutual respect.

During the two-day summit, which focused on bilateral trade issues and military cooperation, Trump commented on the " tremendous progress " the US had made with China.

Trump told Xi that he welcomes any ideas China has on the issue and the US would be happy to work with Beijing. Before the USA attack on a Syrian air base, Trump accused his predecessor of doing nothing when Syria's government used chemical weapons against its population in 2013.

"This coordinated initiative could force North Korea to make real demilitarization concessions, while providing a win for both China and the United States", Markey wrote, adding that China has unsuccessfully urged the U.S. to engage North Korea directly for years.

"China will find ways to influence North Korea's actions to dismantle their nuclear weapons and their missile technology programs".

The future of the Korean Peninsula and North Korean nuclear and missile threats top the agenda of the first meeting of U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Today, China's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said China opposed the use of chemical weapons by any party under any circumstances but didn't comment on the USA attack.

After listening to an argument that it was best to minimize both Russian and Arab casualties, the official said, Trump chose the minimum option and ordered the launch of a barrage of cruise missiles against the Shayrat air field.

Trump also noted the importance of protecting human rights, and asked China to adhere to worldwide norms in the seas of East Asia.

Primary objective U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley also warned yesterday that the USA was prepared to "do more" in Syria if pushed.

The two men had "in-depth and lengthy communications", Mr. Xi said, "and arrived at many common understandings, the most important being deepening our friendship and building a kind of trust".

Military options against North Korea are much riskier than those against Syria.

In addition to promoting its "new southbound policy", Taiwan should also bolster its ties with U.S. industries in a bid to create new jobs there, Sun said. He's right that President Barack Obama issued what amounted to an empty threat of military action.

The Trump administration said Friday that it will follow up on the attack in Syria with more economic sanctions.

The US strike - ordered less than three days after the gas attack - could make it clear to Russian Federation that the United States will hold Moscow accountable for Assad, Mr Blinken said.

The Chinese have opposed efforts to remove Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad from power and probably took offense at the attack, said Dennis Wilder, former senior director for Asia during the George W. Bush administration.

"Given that many political events are taking place (in April) there is a possibility for a strategic provocation from North Korea such as a nuclear test and missile launch", South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman Moon Sang-kyun said. Wang said they also agreed to remain in close contact through meetings, phone calls and written communications.

Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, joined Trump and his wife, Melania, at a long table in an ornate candle-lit private dining room festooned with red and yellow floral centerpieces, where they dined on pan-seared Dover sole and NY strip steak.
