Police say gunman had just been fired from fitness centre

Our team members, Janine Ackerman, Coral Gables General Manager, and Marios Hortis, our Coral Gables Fitness Manager, were attractive souls lost way too soon.

Shoppers Roman Lugo, seated, left, Siuris Rodriguez, center, and Chelsea Lugo, right, sit on the pavement after being evacuated from the Shops at Merrick Park after a shooting, Saturday, April 8, 2017, in Coral Gables, Fla. Hortis underwent surgery before he died, police said.

In a Sunday morning e-mail to members, Equinox gym announced fitness manager Marios Hortis died as the result of his gunshot injuries suffered Saturday at the Shops of Merrick Park location.

A witness spotted an unconscious Ackerman and also claimed Hortis was bleeding heavily but was still conscious following the shooting. Miami-Dade County Police told The Huffington Post, "This was not an act of random violence".

According to Reuters, an ex-employee of The Equinox Fitness Club in Coral Gables, Florida went into his old job and shot two of his former colleagues while they were working out. We send our love and condolences to their families and friends. Our sense of loss is too profound for words.

Wilson's neighbor, who identified herself as Eve, said she was shocked when she heard about the shooting.

Ackerman, who worked for Equinx for almost two years, was described in the email as "a kind and caring soul, a person we all loved and will deeply miss". She was promoted to General Manager of our club in Coral Gables last August. "Her memory will never be forgotten".

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families impacted by this bad tragedy".

"Janine earned her master's from the Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management in 2008".

Moll was her academic adviser at FIU and said Ackerman was a "rare" student.

Hortis, a model with a warm personality, was employed at the gym for more than 6 years. He graduated from the University of Miami with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration.

"We had everyone underneath tables and got everyone to the back", he said.
