Police say gunman had just been fired from fitness center

A representative of the Miami-Dade Police Department, which is now handling the case according to Denham, could not immediately be reached.

Detective Alvaro Zabaleta of the Miami-Dade Police Department told The Daily Beast the ex-employee targeted the two victims after a managerial dispute led to him being fired Saturday.

About 100 people were lunching at the nearby Yard House sports bar's outdoor patio when the shooting began, said Tim Hartog, the general manager.

Wilson was a body builder who worked at Equinox gym. He then returned to the fitness center armed with a hand gun and shot the general manager, Janine Ackerman, multiple times.

Moll was her academic adviser at FIU and said Ackerman was a "rare" student.

Police believe that the shooting is the result of an argument between Wilson and Ackerman.

Anais Michelle said she was walking into the mall with her mother when she saw people coming down from the third level, some crying about a shooting at the gym. But on Saturday, Wilson physically bumped into Sarnoff and his current trainer. The former employee shot two of his former coworkers before turning the gun on himself.

Ironically, the shooting comes as Wilson was considered one of the most popular trainers at the gym.

In the wake of the shooting, the mall remained closed for the duration of the day.

One person told the newspaper: "A woman ran in who had been at Equinox and said she had heard three to four shots and that there was man in a pool of blood". One person said she was waiting to see if she would be allowed back inside to retrieve her belongings.

The statement said that Ackerman had been working for Equinox for almost two years.

Ackerman and Hortis were airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where they later died.

Abeku Wilson was deemed on of the most well-liked trainers at the Florida gym, according to local media reports.

Wilson was a fitness model as well and was born in Boston and lived in Miami.
