North Korea 'Ready for War' After US Sends Navy Team to Peninsula

The Trump administration is reviewing its policy towards North Korea and has said all options are on the table, including military strikes.

"We will make the USA fully accountable for the catastrophic consequences that may be brought about by its high-handed and outrageous acts", the statement said.

The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier was reportedly being accompanied by two destroyers and one cruiser.

He didn't specify North Korea, but the context was clear enough. The re-deployment of the USA aircraft carrier and its accompanying battleships raised tensions on the peninsula.

US National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster on Sunday criticised North Korea as a rogue nation engaged in provocative behaviour and said denuclearisation of the peninsula "must happen".

China - North Korea's closest ally - has pressed the U.S. to engage in direct diplomatic negotiations with North Korea.

China and South Korea agreed on Monday to impose tougher sanctions on North Korea if it carried out nuclear or long-range missile tests, a senior official in Seoul said.

The U.S. recently diverted warships to the region, prompting a rebuke from North Korea, while South Korea has warned that its northern neighbor may conduct a nuclear test in the coming days to mark symbolic dates in the country's history.

Tokyo hopes that the United States' strong response on Syria will put pressure on North Korea, which shows signs of preparing for its sixth nuclear test and more test-firings of ballistic missiles.

"This goes to prove that the U.S. reckless moves for invading the DPRK have reached a serious phase of its scenario", the North's statement said.

"This is what they count on for regime survival".

"We are really anxious about what Washington has in mind for North Korea after it hinted at the possibility of a unilateral military scenario", the ministry said. "I don't think we can make them give up the program". As a result of this the U.S. have sent some warships and troops to the area.

The North has conducted five nuclear tests, two of them previous year, and is working to develop nuclear-tipped missiles that can reach the United States.

Washington has dispatched the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier and its battle group to the region for US-South Korea wargames. "That may defuse attempts to link Japan and South Korea and thus limit the possibility of any North Korean aggression against them".

Pyongyang has vowed a tough response to any military action from the United States after it sent warships to waters off the Korean Peninsular.

The meeting between Xi and Trump came on the heels of yet another missile test by the North, which fired a medium-range ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan on Wednesday. Republican Rep. Will Hurd asked on CNN's "New Day".

South Korea's acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn warned of "greater provocations" by North Korea and ordered the military to intensify monitoring and ensure close communication with Washington.

"A potential USA strike, using aircraft from the Vinson, could range from a small-scale strike against a single target, like a missile on a launch pad or the support equipment that makes a missile launch possible, to a broader set of military targets if the United States meant to "send a message" that an ICBM (intercontinental ballistic missile) or atomic device test was not going to be tolerated", Dakota Wood, an analyst at the DC-based Heritage Foundation, told CNN.

Saturday is the 105th anniversary of the birth of Kim Il Sung, North Korea's founding father and grandfather of the current ruler.
