No signs of concussion for Piscotty, who's OK to play

Dean managed to bounce back on short rest however, and shut the Tigers out in Game 7 to give St. Louis its third world championship in eight years.

Piscotty remained on the ground after scoring the Cardinals' only run in the 2-1 loss, and soon walked off the field escorted by his manager and medical staff.

NOTES: St. Louis RHP Trevor Rosenthal (right lat strain) threw a bullpen session Tuesday with no difficulties. The Cardinals will try to stay hot this Tuesday night when their three-game series against the Cubs continues. After a couple minutes, Piscotty got up and then walked off the field under his own power, although he was removed before the top of the sixth by Matheny. Which is why it was absolutely stunning to see Stephen Piscotty get beaned three times in one trip around the bases.

"I saw Jimmy Edmonds before the game, and I said Almora reminds me of you, '" said Cubs' manager Joe Maddon. "But I'm just glad that we got it done because this is the right place to be". Piscotty raced towards the plate, so Baez fired home, but hit Piscotty in the ear flap of his helmet. It started with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning, when Piscotty was hit on the right elbow by a Jake Arrieta pitch. He took second on a wild pitch, and was hit by the throw to second by Contreras.

Piscotty, who signed a six-year, $33.5 million extension with the club on Monday, led the team in games played (153), runs scored (86), RBIs (85) and game-winning RBIs (10) last season.

Despite an off day following a season-opening win over Chicago, several of Piscottys teammates were in attendance for Mondays news conference to announce his new contract — including Molina. "Hopefully, he's going to be fine".

One of the biggest differences in Piscotty between 2015 and 2016 is that he pulled the ball a lot more last season. Piscotty can also play a little bit of first if needed but that position appears to be Matt Carpenter's for the long haul as well. Matheny didn't say if the lineup would change with the day off, but hinted that he might lean toward leaving it intact.

"We didn't run away from it previous year".

How deep a dig at the Cubs Wednesday's decision was meant to be, the Cubs know they can count on more "psychological warfare" with their rivals going forward - and maybe even the rest of the National League now that they've gone from merely ordained media darlings a year ago to full-fledged champions worthy of envy and hostility. He returned to the field six days later for a game, and then a few days later went six for 16 with three homers in the NL division series against the Cubs. Until Randal Grichuk flew out to center with one out in the fourth, no Cardinal had hit a ball out of the infield.
