Davies looks to rebound in 2nd start as Brewers host Cubs

The defending World Series champions capped their first trip to Miller Park this season by winning another one-sided affair, this time beating the Brewers, 7-4, Sunday afternoon.

Saturday: Hit into a fielder's choice as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning of the Cubs' 11-6 win over Milwaukee.

The baseball term "rubber match", meaning a tie-breaking game, took on new meaning during Sunday's match between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Chicago Cubs. But Hendricks got hurt using his cutter again in the bottom of the inning when Nick Franklin made his first hit for the Brewers count with a booming two-run homer to right-center.

Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun (back) is back in the starting lineup Sunday.

"It's always about semantics", Maddon said. I love it. Our fans deserve it, they waited a long enough time. To make room on the 40-man roster, Milwaukee designated RHP Damien Magnifico for assignment.

Davies was knocked around by Colorado in his season debut, giving up six runs and nine hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Chicago threatened in the second but a double-play bailed out Milone.

Miami Marlins pitcher Wei-Yin Chen got his first major league hit after an 0-for-51 start at the plate. He entered Friday's game as part of a double switch and pinch-hit on Saturday. Manager Craig Counsell said the injury first popped up Wednesday. Barnes stayed in the game to toss a scoreless inning.

Update: Chicago Cubs officials said that Baez has a left eye contusion, day-to-day and did not have to go through concussion protocol. He limited St. Louis to one run over five innings on opening day. He went 2-2 with a 5.32 ERA in four starts against the Cubs in 2016.

Arrieta talked even before the season started about trying to become more efficient, trying to get outs on two pitches or fewer by commanding his pitches better.

In addition to his first multihit game, the 6-foot-5 Bryant charged from third to field a bunt by Franklin and fired a throw to barely nail him for the final out of the sixth.
