Following his loss to UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier at UFC 210 on Saturday, Johnson announced his retirement from mixed martial arts.
For Johnson (22-6), the fight could well have been his last in the Octagon as he declared himself retired after the fight and would concentrate on other ventures.
"He punches hard. I like his little thing, 'One shot, one kill, '" Cormier said of Manuwa.
"The way we sold out and packed the house for the prelims, I can't believe it", he said. And yet there were also times Jones revealed he hasn't lost much of the familiar trash-talking bluster he previously expressed when he was considered one of the sports' best pound-for-pound fighters.
During most UFC events, the preliminary fights are poorly attended as they begin at 6:15 p.m. - almost four hours before the main card gets underway.
However, questions were raised whether one of the knees was illegal under recent changes to the fighting rules, which outlaw strikes when both hands are touching the ground. Why would they even stop the fight at all if it was a legal knee?
While Weidman was recovering from the blows, he soon claimed he was ready to continue, but the doctor intervened and called off the fight, ending the fight via TKO in favour of Mousasi. The Chechen was the more active of the two fighters and landed several punches and spinning kicks and eventually took Lausa to the mat in the third round and kept him there more than two minutes to score a unanimous-decision victory. "Jon Jones, as a fighter, I respect you, but we don't see eye to eye". "You can't beat me Jimi!" I apologize to Weidman.
Unlike the main event, the second-biggest fight on the card is expected to go the distance.
There was a lot of controversy surrounding this fight after it was nearly called off by the New York State Athletic Commission because Gonzalez has breast implants.
She was reinstated and was just too tough as she dominated the bout, finally getting the tap out via rear-naked choke at 3:30 of the final round.
"I gave my commitment to another job, something that I've been wanting to do for a while; it's not MMA-related or anything like that. Jon Jones is the one that hasn't been here to fight again..."
Shortly after the official decision was read by Bruce Buffer, Joe Rogan visited with Johnson, who had an unexpected announcement. But he's fought just three times over the past four years.
But it was Cote who took the spotlight as he took his final bow.
In a rematch of their UFC 187 bout, Daniel Cormier defeated Anthony Johnson, keeping his light heavyweight belt. "You know it. I've been waiting for two years".
Will Brooks and ninth-ranked lightweight Charles Oliveira opened the main card, and it didn't go the way many people thought it would.
Cormier, with a visibly broken nose after withstanding a powerful kick in the opener, took Johnson to the canvas and sunk in the fight-ending submission. It is just time for me to move on to something else.
