Real Madrid's Pepe suffers double rib fracture in draw against Atletico

A late equaliser from Antoine Griezmann earned Atletico Madrid a 1-1 draw against city rivals Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

Never one to show much self-restraint, Simeone was as animated as ever when the French striker found the net.

While Zinedine Zidane's Real continue building the pressure on Barcelona in the Spanish league points table, Atletico Madrid are slowly making their mark in the business end; they have already pushed Sevilla to the fourth spot.

Atletico now find themselves a full ten points behind Los Blancos who are two points ahead of second-placed Barcelona.

The centre-back opened the scoring in the derby at the Santiago Bernabeu but was replaced by Nacho in the 67th minute after a collision with team-mate Toni Kroos on the edge of the area.

Besides missing Sunday's visit of Real Sociedad, Neymar could also be banned for El Clasico after sarcastically applauding the match officials after he was sent off.

Earlier in the day, Pablo Piatti's goal gave Espanyol a 1-0 win over Alaves, while Friday night saw Villarreal win 3-1 at home to Athletic Club Bilbao.

Asked if he would consider joining Real Madrid, Griezmann was quoted as saying by Marca: "I am not ruling anything out. We are more complete now". It is a draw, but we have dropped two points. "Madrid played great and caused us a lot of damage".

The 44-year-old manager was appointed Real Madrid boss in January 2016 and only needed months to lead Los Blancos to the Champions League crown. We know it is going to be hard, but I believe in my teammates. They'll certainly need to maintain their defensive qualities if they expect to get anything out of this fixture against the league's 2 top scorers. I believe in my teammates and the coach.

Coach Luis Enrique said Barcelona's first half performance was "the display we had dreamt about".

A defeat against Diego Simeone's side could dent Real Madrid hopes to win the title as Barcelona would overtake them at the top of the La Liga table if the Catalans beat Malaga in their respective fixture. "I am sure that if we win it will give us even more confidence and help us for what lies ahead".
