Hassan Whiteside: Whiteside scores 30 points in crucial win

Washington knows one thing: It will not be playing the Miami Heat in the playoffs.

Washington has won two straight games to move to 48-31 on the season.

The Miami Heat pulled off a 106-103 upset win over the Washington Wizards on Saturday, but remained in ninth place. The Bulls own the head-to-head tiebreaker by virtue of winning the season series 2-1. As a result, Miami and Milwaukee would be the playoff teams in that scenario.

Washington's loss also drops them a game behind Toronto for 3rd.

"When a three-time National Basketball Association champion coach tells you you're the Defensive Player of the Year, regardless of whatever the votes come out, I believe it", Whiteside said of Spoelstra's confidence in him. "You can't pay enough money to feel like that".

With that being said, none of it mattered last night.

"We're stubborn. We just play hard".

The Wizards have to be anxious about the standings after falling a full game back of the Raptors for third in the East. We've won a lot of close games because we have that, but tonight wasn't one of our better executed end of games.

The lead changed sides repeatedly in the final minutes. After a timeout, Miami cleared out for Johnson, who dribbled from the backcourt all the way for an easy basket. "Maybe we could had a little bit of extra help from I think Marcin who was right there but give them credit that was great attack".

"It was a tough play for him", Washington coach Scott Brooks said of Oubre, who started for the injured Otto Porter and scored 12 points. "Unfortunate that it happened, but that's actually a learning experience".

Wizards swingman Otto Porter's 120-game ironman streak ended because of back spasms that cropped up Thursday at NY. To put his numbers in perspective, Beal was scoreless in the fourth quarter, Wall scored three points, and no other Wizard scored more than five points.

"Josh Richardson saved us, simple as that", Johnson said. Tyler Johnson made four 3s to finish with 19 points. "We have to look ourselves in the mirror and figure out what kind of team we want to be". "If we want to be a hot team moving into the playoffs or are we just going to be a complacent team that's going to be home early."? Luke Babbitt missed his third consecutive game with a strained right hip flexor and Dion Waiters his 11th in a row with a sprained left ankle. Markelle Fultz, the projected No. 1 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, attended the game.

On Monday night, the Heat will host the defending National Basketball Association champion Cleveland Cavaliers (51-28) in a game with massive playoff implications across the entire Eastern Conference.

Heat: Whiteside registered his 56th double-double of the season and 119th of his career, two shy of Dwyane Wade for fourth in team history. Washington is averaging 109.4 points per game on offense this season while giving up 107.4 on defense.

Punishing the Wizards inside to the tune of 50 points in the paint, Miami's big men delivered at each end of the court.
