Chelsea boss Antonio Conte says his side need six victories from their last eight games to win the Premier League.
Guardiola added that City will put all their energy into securing a place in next season's Champions League by finishing in the top four.
Tottenham welcome Watford to White Hart Lane on Saturday while Chelsea make the trip to Bournemouth.
Having choked last season when they failed to catch champions Leicester in the closing weeks, Pochettino's side are back in the hunt and Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen said: "Chelsea look very strong but we can't stop pushing and dreaming of the league".
"Teams are thinking about us now if they're talking about league wins or top four".
Of all the superstars that the Citizens have signed since their emergence as Premier League and Champions League contenders, David Silva is undoubtedly the player who has delivered the greatest amount of net value.
"It was a good win for us, above all because you played after a bad defeat against Crystal Palace where I think we didn't deserve to lose".
He is contracted until the summer and Hull are keen to tie him down to a lucrative long-term deal, and Silva said: "At this present time we have only one focus and that is to remain in the Premier League. I'm a lucky guy to manage these guys", said Guardiola. "In the past two seasons, we have proved we belong where we are".
City had chances to equalise in the second half - John Stones was guilty of missing two of them - but Pep Guardiola's team simply didn't have enough.
"It's normal when you have seven, eight or nine years as a manager to have a season where you don't have as much success as before".
"It can happen. You learn about that". This is one of the most important things in football.
"I never could imagine in Barcelona, Bayern or when I arrived here I would know absolutely everything".
Guardiola also reiterated his belief that City have been affected by controversial referee decisions this season.
A violent conduct charge would have meant a three-game ban for Costa. They have players with a lot of talent and I admire the way they want to play.
Kompany has often played in back-to-back games whenever fitness has allowed this season, suggesting he could start yet again.
