YouTube launches live TV service in 5 United States markets

Also hopping aboard are Disney, FX, the CW and BBC World News. Joining the bandwagon of Netflix, Hotstar, and Hulu, Google is rolling out YouTube TV for both iOS and Android platform in five major U.S. cities: New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago and Philadelphia markets for $35 a month.

YouTube is now offering a free trial for 30 days, which you can check out here, and the provider is giving new members a Google Chromecast after they make their first month's payment.

How much does YouTube TV cost? The service is a competitor for services like Sling TV, DirecTV Now and PlayStation Vue, but it differs from streaming services such as Netflix because it offers live TV rather than on-demand streaming.

"Today, after months of expanded testing and refinement, we are happy to announce that we are making the beta version of YouTube Go available for download on the Google Play Store in India", news agency PTI quoted a statement from Google.

In addition to the networks already listed, Showtime and Soccer Plus are now available for an additional charge. Prospective customers can visually compare YouTube TV to its competitors in a chart on CNET. It contains just three tabs: Library, where users can store and movies and shows; Home, where users can find recommendations; and Live, an extensive list of everything now playing on every YouTube TV channel. The app for the streaming TV works on computers, tablets and phones and can be screened to a television device using Google Chromecast.

Yet YouTube TV stands out as the only option that includes live-streaming of all of the major broadcast networks.

When you sign up, YouTube TV will first verify your zip code to ensure you are based in one of the areas where it is offered, including New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago and Philadelphia. As most people do not have unlimited data plans, it will all depend on how much you watch, and where you watch it. Add-ons are also available for an additional fee if you want to add premium networks to your package. What sets YouTube's service apart are the small details that may be important in a family home. "We'll even keep each recording for nine months".
