Westbrook nearly breaks National Basketball Association record

TIED RECORD. Oklahoma City star Russell Westbrook comes up with his 41st triple-double of the season to equal Oscar Robertson's record. His run of 7 consecutive triple-doubles was finally broken, and Thunder fans will have to wait some more to see if Westbrook can surpass Oscar Robertson's record of triple-doubles in a season, which Westbrook is now tied with Oscar at 41.

But before we start uttering both names in the same sentence, it's worthwhile comparing their seasons head-to-head.

When asked about it, Westbrook downplayed wanting to chase a triple-double and said instead he wanted the rebound in order to close out the game.

Kyrie Irving added 24 points and J.R. Smith 19 for the Cavs, who made nine 3s and scored 43 in the third quarter to turn a tight game into a blowout and beat Orlando for the 17th straight time.

Also, the tweet below disproves any notion that Harden makes people around him better than Westbrook does.

So the triple-double watch continues, and maybe that's not a bad thing.

Westbrook's triple-doubles are also inflated by his ability to grab uncontested rebounds. Rebounds - M 38 (Antetokounmpo 10), OC 53 (Westbrook 13). This season has centered on Westbrook and the history he's chasing, but the Thunder are closing the book on what's been an impressive bounce-back campaign in the wake of Kevin Durant's departure. "It showed that he was sharing the ball, and everybody was benefiting from that".

Westbrook and the Thunder have four games remaining. There appear to be no limits for Westbrook. "I like it because I can actually box out my dude".

Let's get this going again. "I don't mind it". Center Marc Gasol (foot) returned from a five-game layoff to produce 11 points, seven assists and six rebounds in the defeat. Nearly a quarter of his transition possessions as the ballhandler end up in a turnover (23.1 percent), the fourth-highest among guards with at least 100 possessions.

Bucks play at IN on Thursday. Wilt Chamberlain holds the record at nine straight, which Westbrook could match in that same Suns game if he comes through with another on Wednesday at the Memphis Grizzlies. Oklahoma City needs to win this game to have any shot at winning the Northwest Division crown. We expect it from the point guard by now, so when he doesn't achieve it, it's kind of surprising. Kemba Walker scored 37 points, but the Hornets' All-Star guard went cold in the third quarter. Batum would connect on a cross-court pass to Walker, who made the one-dribble jumper from behind the arc. In fact, opponents score nearly as much when Westbrook is classified as the closest defender on catch and shoots (1.1 points per shot) as they do when the National Basketball Association classifies them as unguarded (1.3), like when San Antonio Spurs' LaMarcus Aldridge was able to find Manu Ginobili open on the perimeter out of the post. "For us to win this game to get to tomorrow's game". Even his steals are down, with his 2.3 steals per 100 possessions his lowest rate since the 2009-10 season.

Westbrook continued his incredible season with 12 points, 13 assists and 13 rebounds in the Thunder's 110-79 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.
