Swedish health service says 10 still in hospital

Police said it was not clear how long the suspect had been living in Sweden or whether he was a legal resident.

"We still cannot rule out that more people are involved".

A second person has been arrested in connection with the attack and is suspected of terrorist offences, including murder, and police are holding f our others.

Police said they were unable to confirm local television reports of explosives being found inside the truck.

One attack by a man who drove a stolen truck into shoppers - also wounding 15 - has brought Sweden's open-door immigration policies under increased scrutiny. At least two people remain in intensive care at the hospital.

A fourth person, a woman thrown into the Thames by the force of the vehicle attack, died from her injuries Thursday.

Following the rampage Sweden's prime minister Stefan Lofven said "everything indicates that this is a terrorist attack" and later vowed he would not give in to attempts to destroy democracy.

A Swedish prosecutor and police officials did not identify the suspect, but Anders Thornberg, the head of the Swedish Security Service, said the man had been on the authorities' radar some time ago.

The Guardian also quoted a police spokesperson, Lars Bystorm saying, "The person in question has been arrested as the culprit...in this case the driver".

It was the third terror attack in Europe in two weeks, coming on the heels of assaults in London and St. Petersburg, although there has been no immediate claim of responsibility.

Sweden's Intelligence Agency says on its web page that there is "a large number of injured" in the truck crash.

Update 1pm: The Stockholm truck attack suspect was an asylum seeker from Uzbekistan who had his application for Swedish residency rejected and was being sought for deportation, police said.

"We have been too liberal to take in people who perhaps we thought would have good minds".

A Swedish national police chief said that the suspect in the truck attack is a 39-year-old Uzbekistan native, Sputnik reported.

Pictures showed a large blue truck with a mangled undercarriage smashed into the store.
