Maye's shot for UNC becomes instant March memory

North Carolina forward Luke Maye (32) celebrates in the closing moments of the team's 39-point victory over Texas Southern in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Greenville on Friday. The Tar Heels sophomore entered last night's Elite 8 showdown against Kentucky averaging just 5.8 points and 4 rebounds per contest. The game was still in doubt with just under a minute to go when Florida scored a basket and drew a foul for a three-point play that cut the lead to two. Lost in the drama of the game, Williams changed to a zone defense which stifled the Wildcats-De'Aaron Fox and Monk had a much harder time getting into the lane.

North Carolina: Memphis and the South Regional have been very good to the Tar Heels. Pinson then drove down the court, pitched it to a wide open Luke Maye just inside the 3-point line, and the reserve forward sunk the long jumper with 0.3 seconds to go, giving the Tar Heels a 75-73 win. "He (made) some big-time plays today, big-time plays two days ago". So I wanted these guys to get back because so many of them played in that game.

Maye hit an 18-footer from the left side, with less than a second left on the clock, to send the Tar Heels into the semis scoring a career high of 17-points during the course of the game. That year was the last time UNC won the title. North Carolina spent several minutes using a backcourt of Nate Britt and Stilman White, a former walk-on.

"I love them to death", Adebayo said. They even renamed the group chat that includes every player on the team to "redemption" just before preseason workouts began.

The national semifinals in Phoenix will feature No. 1 seeds in the Bulldogs and Tar Heels, a No. 3 seed in the Ducks and the surprising 7-seed Gamecocks. With all five veteran starters on the team that fell a second short of a national championship last season, I have to think this is the most motivated team left in the field, too.

Those who played in that loss to Villanova have seen this season as their chance at redemption. "So it doesn't surprise me", he said. He don't want us to lose. Maye's 17 points were a career high, which marked the second straight game for a personal best.

Theo Pinson brought the ball down and, in the process, allowed Maye to get free. 'It was a great feeling'.

North Carolina led for the entire first half. The foul shots would start a 7-2 run for SC that ended in a 77-70 win.

Trailing 64-59, North Carolina (31-7) scored 12 unanswered points during a 4-minute 13-second stretch to take control of the game. "I just stepped back and he gave me the ball, and I just shot it". And you've got to beat who's out there, and let's go, and don't worry about it.

Notable: The Tar Heels advanced to their 20th Final Four, the most in NCAA history.
