This means United could be seven points away from securing a Champions League spot by the end of Wednesday night.
Jose Mourinho claimed a lack of confidence among his Manchester United players was the reason for their direct approach during the second half of Tuesday's 1-1 draw against Everton.
"[Shaw] has lots of potential, but the football brain and the professional brain has to be with the talent", Mourinho said.
"The spirit in the second half was phenomenal, with some players really in trouble".
"They started fast, but I think we controlled well, defended well and we made some mistakes in the second half. We were attacking for most of the game, we had good chances, but we have to do more".
"Did the opponent goalkeeper play very well as always? Yes". A United win would've been a statement of intent, making clear that the Red Devils were serious competitors in a top four race that they would extend to the very last days of the season.
"It is a hard one for the linesman, I am not critical of him at all, I just say when the VAR comes it will help everyone, especially them".
Everton: Joel Robles: 7, Mason Holgate: 7, Ashley Williams: 6, Phil Jagielka: 8, Leighton Baines: 7, Idrissa Gueye: 7, Gareth Barry: 7, Tom Davies: 7, Ross Barkley: 7, Kevin Mirallas: 7, Romelu Lukaku: 7.
However Zlatan Ibrahimovic salvaged a point for the home side as he fired home a last minute penalty, after a handball by Williams which also saw him sent off.
"They kept going and kept going and obviously gave us that goal to give us the point".
"At this level, we need the fantastic body he has to play football fantastic physical qualities he has, the very good technical ability he has but he can not play with my understanding of the game", Mourinho said. "You don't need so much confidence when you play that way, it's less creative and more mechanical".
"I feel myself more comfortable here than (with) the way Liverpool tried to press", Koeman said, referring to the weekend Merseyside derby defeat.
This result moved United back clear of Middlesbrough on their own as the team who have drawn more times in the league this season than any other side - 12.
"We need to score goals to win matches". In the end, the game finished 1-1, which doesn't really help either of them.
"I think we deserved a little bit more".
