Russell Westbrook Ties Oscar Robertson With 41st Triple-Double

"It's something I could never have dreams of growing up", said Westbrook, who can break the record Robertson set in the 1961-62 season on Wednesday night against the Grizzlies in Memphis.

Westbrook collected 12 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists for his seventh straight triple-double, helping the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 110-79 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks.

By the time Westbrook received a deafening standing ovation at 9:17 in the third quarter for his 10th assists to Taj Gibson to tie Robertson's single-season mark - the Thunder's second unit had shredded the Bucks. As the public-address announcer tried to yell over a roaring crowd to recognize Westbrook's 41st triple-double, referee Gary Zielinski had the ball tucked under his left arm, waiting to restart play. Russell Westbrook is averaging 31.9 points and 10.4 assists while Victor Oladipo is averaging 16.4 points and 4.3 rebounds.

Thunder: Westbrook has matched a career best with his seven straight triple-doubles. "I air-balled a 3 right after it". However, Russell Westbrook's long distance shooting shut the door on Memphis, and perhaps their last shot at chasing the Thunder for the 6th seed in the playoff race. He's questionable to play tonight.

"It's one of those nights, a special night, and something I definitely will never forget". Giannis Antetokounmpo added a double-double of 11 markers and 10 boards to go with three blocks. "Leadership to me was more important than averaging points or field goal percentage or whatever, because I think that's what gets us the farthest and helps us win a championship". However, Memphis responded to the Thunder's punches with a run of their own to keep the game within reach, in part thanks to players like Andrew Harrison, who had 12 points on the night. It was appropriate to tie the record against the Bucks too, because the record was previously set by former Bucks star Oscar Robertson over 50 years ago.

As Westbrook walked off the court, the Oklahoma City Thunder faithful harmoniously showered him with MVP chants, but that doesn't matter.

Bradley Beal scored 19 points for the Wizards, who avoided their first four-game losing streak of the season and moved into a tie with Toronto for third place in the Eastern Conference. Shattering Robertson's record would just be a personal accomplishment. He didn't record a triple-double on Wednesday - which would have been his 42nd this season, breaking an National Basketball Association record for triple-doubles in a season - because he was saving something for the Thunder's final four games.

Westbrook is nearing a triple-double average for the season.

With Memphis slipping the past couple of games, they found themselves 2.5 games back of the sixth seed in the playoffs behind the OKC Thunder.

Westbrook's triple-doubles are also inflated by his ability to grab uncontested rebounds. "When he was playing, the game was different, the times were different and there were different things going on around the world".
