Russian Federation calls for emergency United Nations meeting after USA strikes on Syria

John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Sen. White House officials said the assault was not a step toward deeper involvement in Syria's civil war, though Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the United Nations, said Washington was prepared to take further military action. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), are calling for Congress to vote on authorizing any future military operations in Syria. Kaine called it "unconstitutional" for Trump to wage military action without a vote of Congress.
Saudi Arabia called the strike a "courageous decision" by Trump, expressing its full support, SPA news agency reported, citing a statement from Riyadh.
In a letter, Pelosi called on Speaker Paul Ryan to return to the House to debate the issue.
Syrian state media said nine people were killed in the strike from villages near the base, including four children.

The United States is not at war with Syria - at least not yet.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson accused Russian Federation - which props up the Assad regime and agreed to mothball Syrian chemical weapons in a 2013 deal - of being incompetent or complicit in permitting Assad's actions. However, because of our attack on Syria, this investigation may now not even be possible.

Washington claimed the strike was a response to an earlier alleged chemical attack in Syria's Idlib, for which the United States blamed the Syrian government.
Major Jamil al-Saleh, a U.S-backed rebel commander whose Hama district in the country's centre was struck by the suspected chemical weapons attack, told AP he hoped the US attack would be a "turning point" in the war that has left more than 400,000 dead. The corresponding conclusions were made by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, which over the past years has inspected practically all facilities that had or might have been involved in Syria's chemical weapons program.
