Alfreton church hosts new play for Easter

Churches throughout East Tennessee will commemorate Holy Week next week with a variety of services celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ, starting with Palm Sunday services and running through Easter Sunday.

The Resurrection of Jesus from the dead will be celebrated on Easter Sunday morning, April 16. Palm Sunday, April 9: 8 a.m. Easter breakfast will be served between the two services from 8:15 to 10 a.m.

Maundy Thursday, April 13, 5:30 p.m., choral Eucharist followed by the symbolic stripping of the altar and veneration of the sacrament in the garden of repose.

The ladies meets for Bible study at 9:30 a.m. The Bell family will provide most of the 8 a.m. breakfast at St. Andrew's. Wednesdays at the River Bend House in Wheelersburg.

Easter Sunday: Services featuring special vocal and handbell choir music will start at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 16 in the Sanctuary.

Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 1 Center St., 6:30 p.m., Seder supper with Holy Communion for the parish. A hot dog lunch and crafts will be provided.

Third St., is hosting Passion Week services April 9-16. Those needing to return to work by 1:00 p.m. will be served first.

Palm Sunday service with procession and blessing of the palms at 10 a.m., Sunday, April 9. Everyone is invited to these services.

First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 232 Bristol St., Sunday - 9:30 a.m. service; Sunday school, 9:15 a.m. (860) 628-9001.

Rev. Jeannie Himes' service for Palm Sunday will be "Betrayers, Deserters", from Matthew 26:31-56.

St. John Lutheran Church, 2546 State Highway 80, 5:30 p.m. worship.

A Said Eucharist at 8 a.m. and a Sung Eucharist at 10:30 a.m.

"Sunday, The Story - The Musical" will be presented by the First Baptist Church Worship Arts Ministry at 8:30 a.m.

St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 271 Roseland Ave., will kick off Good Friday with a stations of the cross at noon, followed by a Good Friday liturgy in the chapel at 7:30 p.m.

First United Methodist Church of Madison (FUMC) will host Wednesday's service at 12 p.m. FUMC is located at 348 SW Rutledge St.in Madison.

Christ Presbyterian Church, 325 Spring Ave., Ellwood City. Good Friday, April 14: 6:30 p.m. An old-fashioned school picnic will be catered by the Cornerstone, and the cost is $10. Saturday: 9 a.m.to noon, United Methodist Women rummage sale (bag day). 6 a.m. sunrise service at Easton's Beach; 10:30 a.m. worship. Through projected images, other visuals, readings and prayers, participants will walk the road to Calvary beginning with a simple celebration of Holy Communion to recall the Last Supper and will conclude at the foot of the cross.

An Easter egg hunt will be 7:45 p.m. April 15 in the Kids Auditorium.

The Merrick United Methodist Church will usher in Holy Week with worship on Palm Sunday, April 9, at 10 a.m.in the Sanctuary. "We get somewhere between 25 and 30, but this year I look for more than that", Pastor Richard Justice said.

On Sunday, which is Palm Sunday, there are masses at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Prizes awarded to winners of each age group.

EASTMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH: A peace service will be 4 p.m. Sunday, 3200 Trenholm Road. Children's services available for nursery children through fifth grade.
