Tottenham player named in European Team of the Week after Burnley victory

Tottenham Hotspur must learn from last season's poor late form as they attempt to chase down Premier League leaders Chelsea in the closing weeks of the campaign, manager Mauricio Pochettino has said.

"We don't talk about the title because even seven points is a big gap at this stage of the season".

So, one possible response to Pochettino here is to say "tell that to Chelsea", but he's also not wrong. He explained that "Maybe we are clever and intelligent people but in football there are many things inside that you can lose or win".

"Nothing is impossible - that is our idea and our philosophy".

Chelsea beat City 3-1 in the reverse fixture in December - an ill-tempered contest in which Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho were sent off and players and coaching staff from both teams were involved in a melee on the touchline.

Harry Kane, Danny Rose and Erik Lamela are all still unavailable, but Kyle Walker should return after being rested in the last league game.

Despite a promising start under Paul Clement with five wins in his first eight games, the Swans are now winless in their last three games.

"We lost the ball, but two passes and it's in the back of the net because that's the quality they've got", he said.

Former England Under-21 midfielder Carroll made his Spurs debut at the age of 19, but he found it hard to establish himself as a first-team regular. It's true that the Premier League is more competitive this season.

Spurs' squad depth will however be challenged in the run in as they saw Harry Winks and Victor Wanyama leave the pitch due to injuries, with the latter fearing a season ending broken leg or at least ankle ligament damage.

The midfielder will face off against the side he spent 16 years developing at for the first time on Thursday morning, after making a permanent move to Wales at the beginning of 2017.

In the nine set of matches remaining this season, Spurs play before Chelsea three times, after them twice, and at the same time four times.

"Rather than talking about winning trophies, we need to see that Tottenham deserve full credit and to be shown more respect".

"He is a very good prospect, a player who is dynamic and aggressive".

"When we finished the game we checked our phone and said, 'Woah!' - but at half-time we were focused on us".
