Gonzaga downs SC, advances to first NCAA men's tournament title game

Recruiting trips in the early days that ventured outside of Spokane, Washington, sometimes needed clarification.

"We had been practicing it all year and we always want to foul under 6 (seconds)".

Both teams made their Final Four debuts on Saturday, as Frank Martin's seven-seed faced their highest-ranked opponent in March Madness, the one-seed Zags.

The No. 1 seeded Bulldogs and No. 7 Gamecocks battled to the end in a squeaker in the first of two April 1, 2017, games at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ.

The Bulldogs maintained a slim lead from there and led 75-72 with 12.7 seconds left as the Gamecocks set up a final play.

"She was shocked and amazed just like us", Harris said of Staley. The SEC Player of the Year has averaged nearly 26 points and 7.5 rebounds per tournament game.

"And we're here to win it". Twice they had the chance to tie: Rakym Felder missed a field goal down two with just over a minute and a half remaining, and Sindarius Thornwell was fouled before a shot with three seconds left, trailing by three. Zach Williams chipped in with 14 points and six blocked shots. And on the next play, he scored on an old-fashioned 3-point play.

Gonzaga is playing in the school's first Final Four after falling short several times in the past. That was disappointing. I don't think we got to the free-throw line, what, twice, if that, in the second half.

It led to a celebration at mid-court and spilled into the Zags' locker room, where Few did a handstand.

All tournament, Zags coach Mark Few has rightfully cited defense as the reason Gonzaga keeps winning. "And so, sometimes I worry that my guys act like it's a job".

Below, we've put together all the information you need for this weekend, and stay tuned - this story will update with all the latest and greatest from the Final Four. My drive, they forced me to pass it out on my drives. That's my fairly weak effort of showing emotion. "I think the first half I was a little worn out a little bit, but that's still no excuse for anything".

Freshman Zach Collins delivered 14 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks in 23 minutes as Gonzaga knocked off SC, 77-73 in Glendale, Arizona. He made just four shots on 12 attempts and only two 3-pointers.

Collins regained the lead for Gonzaga when his 3-pointer bounced around and in, starting a 7-0 run in which center Przemek Karnowski had a dunk and a layup.

"I was 100 percent", Thornwell said. In my head, I just said, I had no choice. And the scout was really good. Gonzaga never relinquished the lead after that and made some key defensive plays down the stretch to preserve the win.

"These girls are really special to me", Roberson said.
