Bad weather forecast prompts postponement of Cubs-Cards game

While Piscotty was cleared to play, Mother Nature had other ideas as St. Louis' afternoon game against the visiting Chicago Cubs was postponed by rain.

"I think everyone had a similar feel around the locker room in spring training", said Verlander, whose team finished second in the AL Central a year ago and fell short of a wild card. Trying to glove Wong's soft grounder that was ruled a hit, Baez bobbled it, enabling Stephen Piscotty to score from second on a hustling play.

Last night in Major League Baseball action, the Cubs and Cardinals were renewing their rivalry in a second game of a three-game series.

The Cardinals outfielder was struck three times during a body-pounding fifth inning. Strong-armed Cubs catcher Willson Contreras fired a throw to try to catch Piscotty but instead nailed him square in the left elbow as he slid into second. I think everybody did.

Piscotty eventually walked off the field under his own power, although manager Mike Matheny removed him from the game prior to the top of the sixth.

According to the Cardinals' website, Piscotty left the game - which the Cubs won 2-1 - with a bruised head. This happened while St. Louis missed the playoffs; something that only has happened four times this century. In 2017, we are two games into the season and the St. Louis Cardinals are repeating their 2016 success against the Cubs. Jason Heyward blooped a single over the head of shortstop Aledmys Diaz and Randal Grichuk made an ill-advised late throw home allowing Contreras to move to third.

This deal to stream the games is worth $50 million, which is up from the $10 million Twitter paid to stream the games last season.

I, for one, can not wait to watch these teams get after it all season, and I am confident the St. Louis Cardinals will edge the Cubs head-to-head.
