'Zoey 101' star Matthew Underwood rescues baby from auto crash

The Nickelodeon star told TMZ that he "wanted to document" the scene before he intervened in case things went south.

Matthew Underwood, who you might remember as Logan from Nickelodeon's Zoey 101, came face-to-face with America's heroin epidemic after he rescued an infant from a crashed vehicle.

Underwood immediately ran up to the vehicle to find the two parents unconscious, as well as the unharmed four-month-old infant - according to police report obtained by TMZ.

After he rescued the baby - who luckily was not injured - from the wreck, Matthew noticed that the driver had a syringe full of heroin in her arm.

According to the police report, Underwood saw the parents passed out and removed the infant - who was in a auto seat but not secured - from the vehicle.

The 26-year-old also shot a video of the incident to show to police officers.

TMZ reports that Underwood and his brother called 911 and removed the child from the auto.

All three crash victims were transported to a local medical center. Rodriguez was arrested for child neglect, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of probation warrant. Hand reportedly later told police that this was the first time she had ever tried heroin.

The baby's parents, John Rodriguez and Jessica Hand, were both arrested for child neglect and drug possession, with their child being turned over to a family member.

"I hope they can get rehabilitated", Underwood said regarding the infant's parents.

"I heard a baby cry and that's when I really stopped caring about anything that was going on there".

The baby was not hurt and was placed in the custody of relatives, police said.
