Wildcats G Malik Monk's 47 points in a December 17 win over the Tar Heels are the second-most points an opponent has ever scored on North Carolina.
OREGON 74, KANSAS 60 - Tyler Dorsey poured in 27 points, Dillon Brooks added 17 and plucky OR ended Kansas' romp through the NCAA Tournament with a victory Saturday night that gave the Ducks their first Final Four trip in almost 80 years.
"Theo (Pinson) just drove down court and was penetrating towards the basket and kind of picked my man a little bit" Maye said.
"Luckily it went it went in", Maye said after the game. "It was such a great feeling".
After determining that Maye was inside theline, Kentucky (32-6) had three-tenths of a second left. The Wildcats had one last chance, but Derek Willis' inbound pass went out of bounds on the far end.
Seconds later, UNC's celebration began. This is the second straight time the Tar Heels have been the region's top seed and advanced to the Final Four through Memphis, and now they can only hope to replicate their success of 2009 when they won the program's fifth national title.
It'll be SC vs. Gonzaga in the first semifinal at 6:09 p.m. Saturday in Phoenix followed by OR vs.
At times, it's easy to forget that the players we see becoming March icons every year are also still students with classes that they have to go to in between tournament games. The Heels made it a 12-0 run to go up seven with under a minute to play before Fox hit a 3-pointer to stop the bleeding. He'd scored just 93 points all season before this game.
Game 2: (3) OR vs. (1) North Carolina, 5:49 p.m. He scored 16 against Bulter on Friday and then 17 Sunday.
Now all that practice with a 15-second shot clock has paid off with a trip back to the Final Four.
"So proud of Isaac", Calipari said after the game. He scored 17 points on six of nine shooting.
The junior point guard rolled his right ankle during the first-round win against Texas Southern. Joel Berry II added 11 points while Kennedy Meeks pulled down a career-best 17 rebounds for the Heels. There is no love lost on either side of this rivalry and Duke fans are likely confused as to why Laettner is showing the Tar Heels any love at all. And that set up Monk, again. But Monk then nailed another clutch three-point shot to tie the score, 73-73, with only 10 seconds left. Luke Maye's jumper from the left corner with three tenths of a second remaining sealed the deal for the Tar Heels.
Led by tenacious guards Nigel Williams-Goss and Josh Perkins and 7-foot-1 center Przemek Karnowski, the Bulldogs broke through big time this year, beating Xavier 83-59 on Saturday night.
