He could break Nicklaus' record for oldest Masters victor this week.
It was yet another reminder why Sunday at the Masters is unlike any other majors. The week begins with practice on Monday, and there's lots going on from that moment until the green jacket gets draped over the winner's shoulders sometime in the evening on Sunday. Jordan Spieth headed out to play with his father.
And the stress was at a minimum.
Bad weather severely disrupted the first official day of practice for the Masters yesterday, with players and spectators twice forced to evacuate Augusta.
Fowler's opening 80 past year marked his worst-ever round at Augusta National and he went on to miss out on weekend play for the first time in six Masters starts.
The only major held at the same venue every year, experience counts at Augusta National where the learning curve, particularly through Amen Corner, on a gusty afternoon can be cruel to the extreme.
"You'd be able to walk around with that green jacket knowing you accomplished one of your life goals".
"That was fun to go back and play a couple of practice rounds and just see that it is doable and that the shots make sense", said Steele.

A few weeks later, at the World Golf Championship Mexico Championship, the two finished first and second again, this time with Fleetwood taking the silver medal.
"There's going to be some true legends there, and to be in that room is going to be pretty special", Willett said. "So kind of all that is just accumulated into it".
Whether Fowler brings that good mojo to Augusta National remains to be seen.
Finalists from eight regions face off at Augusta National. "Being that way, when you end up in a similar situation, if it's a good one, you remember what you were thinking and go through a process and get in that same frame of mind".
"Its still kind of a bit of an emotional time for me", said Day, whose father, Alvin, died of cancer when he was 12.
A wrist injury that plagued him after the Masters bothered him most of the rest of the year. "To actually come here and compete is fantastic".
"I still get questioned about the back nine at Augusta in 2011".
Russell Henley: You can't help but take note of what Henley did last week at the Shell Houston Open. "It's not only the power hitters that win. and if you are on your game and your irons are very precise, then you can use it to your advantage". Now it's all changed. Our MCs this year have been with top guys who are horses-for-courses who just wet the bed that week.
"It's a week I always try to slow down and enjoy it", he said, "because it's so cool to be here".
Over the weekend Day announced he felt he was in a better place and ready to play at the first major of season. We came in cold. The first time is their fault, the second time is my fault.
"I'm not going to sit here and say I expect to win".
"I was in awe of the place", Faldo said. That's what I did at Torrey Pines and that's what I did in my first time as a pro at Congressional and that's how I play.
He eventually figured it out.
