During the eight-game winning streak, the big question was if the Warriors could compete with the best of the best without Durant even though they had taken care of inferior teams.
Golden State has won nine in a row and now has a three-and-a-half-game cushion on the Spurs in the race for the Western Conference's top playoff seed with seven games remaining on the schedule. It artificially forced the Warriors into tougher games, to try out different rotation combinations, and to play more aggressively without worrying about incorporating Durant or getting him his shots.
The San Antonio Spurs (57-16) are coming from a 103-74 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in which Kawhi Leonard scored 25 points in 11-for-21 shooting from the field and 3-for-3 from the line. Considering it is also just their second win in the last 36 regular-season games in San Antonio, they should have some more confidence heading into the playoffs.
The Golden State Warriors continued to showcase their title credentials in the National Basketball Association, while Russell Westbrook was in stunning form again. Curry and Thompson are both averaging over 20 points a game during this stretch.
Then Curry and Golden State went to work wrapping up a sixth straight victory at home in raucous Oracle Arena, where an electric crowd booed Harden at every chance as these teams met for the second time in four nights.
The Warriors were without star forward Kevin Durant but they could soon welcome the eight-time NBA All-Star back from injury.
Warriors: Golden State expects to have an update on Kevin Durant's health on Wednesday.
Golden State managed to overcome a trail of 22 points to clinch the win.
The Warriors finished with 1,077 per game last season - and by the way, have 897 this year and are on pace to knock down 980 this year. With the playoffs nearly near, this game will have a huge impact on determining the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.
"We're on the right track", Curry said. Golden State concludes its slate with home contests against the New Orleans Pelicans on April 8, Utah Jazz two nights later and the Los Angeles Lakers on April 12.
The Warriors also forced 14 Spurs turnovers over the last three quarters, scoring 22 points off those turnovers.
The Spurs started this one out on a tear, taking a 15-0 lead behind three triples from Danny Green before the Warriors finally hit a shot, a Stephen Curry three. The Rockets are on the end of a back-to-back and really don't have anything to play for with them being stuck in the third seed.
"I just think what he's done with that team, the way they built the offense around James, they added personnel that made a lot of sense", Kerr said. The team said he got seven stitches to close a cut above his left eyebrow, and he did not return.
