Family members of a Utah couple celebrating their anniversary on a European vacation say they're heartbroken by the London attack that killed the man and seriously injured his wife.
Cochran's brother-in-law, Clint Payne, called him "an awesome individual who loved everyone and tried to make the world a better place".
Neighbor Rick George said the Cochrans lent him a snow shovel and invited his family to come into their home when the heat stopped working and remembered Kurt would often post Facebook videos of musicians in his studio, the Tribune said. Masood then crashed his vehicle into a fence at Parliament and proceeded to fatally stab officer Keith Palmer within its gates.
"With a heavy heart I must pass the sad news of our handsome brother, father, husband, son and friend Kurt Cochran, he could not overcome the injuries he received in the London terror attacks", she wrote.
"He left a legacy of generosity and service that continues to inspire us".
Mr and Mrs Cochran had been visiting her parents, who were serving as missionaries in the London Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons), and were sightseeing on the last day before going home when they were caught up in the attack. "Kurt was a good man and a loving husband to our sister and daughter, Melissa", the statement said.
The Metropolitan Police released a statement on behalf of his family that described Palmer as "dedicated to his job and proud to be a police officer, fearless and courageous". "His whole life was an example of focusing on the positive".
The assailant was identified as 52-year-old Khalid Masood, who had a substantial criminal history, The Times reported.
He said: "So many people have been so kind and we are deeply touched by their goodness and generosity".
"He'd touch people the same way music does", said longtime friend and business partner Bret Layton.
"A great American, Kurt Cochran, was killed in the London terror attack", Trump wrote on Twitter.
