Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas meets Trump envoy at Arab summit

Conflicts in several Arab countries are expected to figure high on the agenda, particularly those in Syria, Libya and Yemen, as well as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Abbas was speaking to reporters at the Arab summit which brings together leaders of 21 Arab countries. The resolution considers the presence of Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries as a "temporary situation", according to the foreign ministers' suggestions. The last summit was hosted by Mauritania.
Arab leaders will unite in voicing their rejection and condemnation of all attempts by Iran to interfere in the internal affairs of the Arab states, the draft resolutions stated.
The summit's closing statement said "peace is a strategic option" for Arab states.
The heads of the Arab states will once again voice their commitment to the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, which offers Israel normal ties with the Arab world, in return for a total withdrawal from territories it occupied in 1967, the statement added.
Israeli Cabinet minister Israel Katz suggested after the summit ended that Israel is ready to cooperate with Arab states, including in countering shared security threats, while "also advancing initiatives to improve the conditions of the Palestinians" in the West Bank and Gaza.
The declaration also highlighted the importance of Jerusalem to the Arab world.

"If Israel wants to be a partner for peace in the region and live in security and peace alongside its neighbors, it should give up the notion that security comes with appropriating more land and it should end its occupation and stop denying our Palestinian people their right for freedom and independence on their own land".
"This is particularly true in relation to the need to stop settlement activities, which are illegal under global law", the United Nations chief said.
The Algerian delegation arrived in Queen Alia International Airport, headed by National Assembly Speaker Abdulqader Bin Saleh.
King Salman thanked Jordan's monarch, government and people for their warm hospitality. Greenblatt also met with the Qatari and Egyptian foreign ministers at the summit.
