Might have to open in Virat and Rahul's absence: Watson

Royal Challengers Bangalore will be without captain Virat Kohli for at least the initial phase of the Twenty20 tournament as the India skipper recovers from a shoulder injury that forced him to miss the series-sealing final test win over Australia in Dharamsala.

"In the absence of Virat and KL Rahul, there are chances that I would be asked to bat at the top - a position which I enjoy the most and have been doing well, all his career".

"They are two great players and it is going to be challenging for us. But one thing we have at RCB is a lot of batting depth", the Aussie all-rounder said. We have Sarfaraz Khan, Mandeep Singh, Kedar Jadhav and Sachin Baby. I keep helping people whenever I can. We are so very fortunate to have such quality depth.

RCB, whose build-up has been rocked by injuries to Kohli and K L Rahul (the India opener will miss IPL-10 completely), received a shot in the arm after a team spokesman said that their South African mainstay A B de Villiers will join the team on Sunday. "Our plan will change a little bit as we will be without Kohli initially and Rahul". RCB play their sixth game on April 18 against Gujarat Lions, and one hopes the skipper is cleared to play by then. They had won just two of their initial seven games and the slow start nearly had an adverse impact on their campaign before they turned things around. But to be honest we can't get much worse than what we did past year. Watson said the team has learnt from the past and will look to do better this season. "We played incredibly well in the last half past year and there's no reason why we can't do that this time. With Tymal Mills in the line-up now, I'm really excited".
