Now that everyone's bracket has been thoroughly busted, we can finally sit back and enjoy the final three games of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament.
Gonzaga players said they aren't nervous playing in the Final Foul, despite comments made by South Carolina's Sindarious Thornwell.
Karnowski, who said he was bothered by some blurred vision, left for the last 5 minutes of the half, but Collins picked him up, finishing with 8 points at halftime.BIG PICTURESouth Carolina: The Gamecocks entered the tournament having last won a game in 1973.
Top-seeded Gonzaga and seventh-seeded SC are both part of the Final Four for the first time in school history and the victor of Saturday's NCAA Tournament national semifinal contest in Glendale, Ariz. will face either North Carolina or OR in Monday's championship game.
"If you told me coming into the game Karlie wouldn't score, I'd have told you we were in real trouble", Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer said. It will be the third team USC has played in four games that spent some time in the country's No. 1 ranking this year; it's the fourth time in four games the Gamecocks are underdogs.
The coach and players did away with the redemptive story line once they landed in Arizona, because past year is irrelevant.
Gonzaga's long journey to this year's Final Four is generally considered to have started with the Zags' 1999 Elite Eight run. The player who really makes the Zags go, though, is Washington transfer point guard Nigel Williams-Goss, who was selected to the 10-man Wooden Award All-America team.
"When things got tough we banded together and pulled through", said Williams-Goss, who had six assists and a brief injury scare after turning an ankle underneath the basket. But we've got plenty of action before we get there, and Saturday night gives us an excellent shot at some.
Rock music rang out in between commercials on the giant video screen at University of Phoenix Stadium as tens of thousands of fans, paying $40 a pop just to park, filtered in for the semifinals of the Final Four.
The 3rd seeded Oregon Ducks (33-5) meet the No. 1 seeded North Carolina Tar Heels (31-7) in the Final 4 of the 2017 NCAA Tournament on Saturday, April 2, 2017 (4/1/17) at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
South Carolina's second round upset of Duke doesn't seem like that big of an upset anymore, given how well the Gamecocks played during the East Regional in NY.
All that madness has led us here: the final weekend of the NCAA tournament.
"I want to get the kids used to colleges, used to the names of colleges and just being aware", he said.
Gonzaga has battled its way to the Final Four behind one of the deepest and most talented frontlines in the sport. So if they're down six or up six, it's the same team. Samuelson, who averages 13 points per game, was able to return in the second half, but she was clearly hobbled, and was held scoreless.
Stat of the game II: South Carolina never corrected it's 3-point shooting issue. "There's no such thing as not being nervous for a big game", South Carolina's Frank Martin said Monday during a teleconference with reporters.
"It's unreal, we were talking (Thursday) in practice, we can't believe that we're back", senior Kennedy Meeks said. The Gamecocks scored the next five points.
FIRST TO 80: The North Carolina-Oregon game should be one where both teams try and get out and run, a lot.
A layup and a three-pointer by Smith made it 53-50 with just over two minutes left. "I've been giving him a hard time all morning, because I know he doesn't like it, that the rest of us worked yesterday and he laid around in bed and watched TV".
