"The High Commission is demanding thorough investigation and prosecution of culprits and protection of Nigerians", she said.

"The Uttar Pradesh government and other state governments must thoroughly investigate all reports of hate crimes, and protect the rights of black students", said Makepeace Sitlhou.

Confirming the attacks on Tuesday, Singh, a senior police officer, told AFP News that at least 300 Indians were involved in the attacks, adding that five men were already in police custody in connection with the attacks. The police took her to a local hospital when she informed them about the incident.

Over 100 locals held a protest at the busy junction demanding that all Africans living in residential colonies in Greater Noida be asked to vacate their rented houses immediately.

Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj has assured an impartial probe into the alleged brutal attack on African student in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

She said the mob attack reportedly began after a mother of a deceased teenaged Indian boy claimed her son died after taking drugs given by some Nigerians. The police also registered cases against hundreds of unknown people.

Asserting that such attacks were "completely unacceptable and have been condemned", he said the government is engaged with the authorities concerned as well as the students.

Enikanolaiye said that contrary to the report that Nigerians masterminded the boy's death, the boy who was said to be on drugs and must have had an overdose of it which might have led to his death in a hospital.

Attacks on Africans in and around Delhi is not uncommon.

"In Greater Noida, they (locals) say that Africans "we don't want you to be here anymore".

They also said since the beat staff doesn't understand English, they face problems in communication.

Swaraj said UP CM Yogi Aditya Nath has assured her of an impartial probe into the incident in which four Nigerian students were attacked by a violent mob in Greater Noida.

"Just look at how India reacts whenever there is any kind of racist attack against Indians in other parts of the world, but do we ever stop and think how we treat those of other nationalities who live in India", she said.

The African Union (AU) on Thursday said it was extremely appalled by the attacks on Nigerian students and a Kenyan woman in India.
