Snapchat adds more accessible search feature

Snapchat Stories found through search are in addition to the curated Our Stories section, as well as Publisher Stories and Shows from media partners in the Snapchat Discover sections throughout the app. The product launched back in October 2013, beginning first with My Stories that allowed individual Snapchat users to stitch together individual photos and videos that would last only 24 hours each.

Users can find snaps for a local basketball game, their favorite bar or puppies, as previously referenced.

Just to elucidate a little more, the stories collection which made available through the search result doesn't feature any ads until now, however, its a great opportunity for the companies to take leverage of the prospect. It's essentially a very high-tech way of inspiring a major sense of FOMO in prospective viewers.

Snapchat also says that along with the search feature, it's also hoping to create many more Stories related to places and events in part through the use of machine learning.

Snapchat hopes that Stories in Search will make it easier for users to find content that they're interested in, even if they've already watched all of the Stories their friends have posted. "You can search over one million unique Stories on Snapchat".

As it continues to improve upon its search features, Snapchat today announced an update targeted at Stories. The app now automatically understands captions and objects in submissions to Snapchat's Our Story feature and analyzes other data such as filming time and location, to sort them into highlight videos without any human curation. Or, maybe it's a long day and all you want to do is sit back on the couch and browse through stories of puppies. You can download Snapchat from the App Store for free.

The search feature for Snapchat Stories is rolling out Friday, starting in select USA cities.
