Mata joins Smalling and Jones on United injured list

Manchester United star Juan Mata is the latest casualty to join the growing list of injured United players as selection problems begin to mount for manager Jose Mourinho.

Manchester Unite's Juan Mata (left) will be on the sidelines after having surgery on a groin injury.

But who else is on the Old Trafford treatment table?

Mourinho also told a news conference ahead of Saturday's match against West Brom that he'd "no thought" when Paul Pogba would be back from a hamstring injury.

They did not specify how long he would be out for, only saying that there would be a further update.

The club have refused to divulge any further details or suggest how long the 28-year-old will be sidelined for, but Mata is nearly certain to miss the majority of United's run-in.

Fans were hoping the midfielder may have just picked up a knock, however, United released a statement last night confirming that Mata has been forced to go under the knife to cure a groin injury.

However, Jose Mourinho was not in a mood to dwell upon the injuries and suspensions and insisted that the players on the pitch are more important than those who are not available, and he is absolutely right!

"You know what happened in the English national team with Smalling and Jones".

"When I look for example in two weeks we are going to play against Chelsea [in the league on 16 April], before we play Anderlecht [in the Europa League] and after we play Anderlecht, Chelsea are on holidays".

"In 15 days time maybe the Premier League is not important for us, maybe it is", he said. Like Pogba's body felt it and had a negative reaction.
