It's not always that simple at the Masters.
Charles Howell III 2 points each way at 50/1 with Bet On Brazil - Hasn't won a PGA Tour event for over a decade, but continues to play very steady golf, with four top tens and eight top 25s this season from just 13 starts. He took a double bogey and a triple bogey in a span of three holes in the opening round and never caught up.
"I believe you guys can attest to this, but I called this", Spieth said while speaking to the media about Johnson's surge to the top of the golfing world after three consecutive victories, via Golf Magic. Best-ever fourth-place finis previous year. The bookmakers also agree, with Johnson the short-priced favorite to don the Green Jacket.
Danny Willett heads to Augusta National as the defending Masters champion, and he has been reflecting on his memorable victory in 2016 in our special documentary - Steel Magnolia.
Last tournament: Tom Lehman won the Tucson Conquistadores Classic.
While this praise is legitimate, there should be no assumption that Johnson's results are unique or that he will automatically prevail at Augusta National on April 9.
His victory on the final hole in Texas stopped a great comeback from Rahm, who conceded that his opponent was "the ideal, complete player". Lucy Li, the Californian who qualified for the U.S. Women's Open at Pinehurst when she 11, won the Junior ANA Inspiration to earn the final spot in the major.
Despite Spieth's outstanding record at Augusta, he still feels Johnson is the man to beat. They were partners at the Presidents Cup two years ago, and they regularly play together at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
He was scheduled to play in the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play last week, but he withdrew only six holes into the tournament so he could be with his mother during the surgery.
"So, that side of things, getting number one isn't the pressure that I feel, but that's the only way to really take big strides towards him because I don't think he's letting up any time soon". But if I was to throw a couple more numbers at you it shows that time waits for no golfer.
"I've historically played better golf the second, third, fourth week in a row just after playing the week before".
No one can dispute that over the last month. He won a World Golf Championship in Mexico City (stroke play) and another one on the edge of Hill Country in Texas (match play).
Jon Rahm may have been too exhausted to play a full practice round this week but there was no chance the red-hot Spanish rookie was going to skip the final pre-Masters tune-up at this week's Shell Houston Open.
Purse: $7 million. First prize: $1,260,000.
Johnson wasn't even part of that conversation. He's still looking to stop a two-year winless drought and has always said he loves momentum going into majors.
Johnson talks about the improvement he has made in his wedges, though the biggest difference was going to a controlled fade off the tee, instead of a draw that could sometimes get away from him. He said he struggles trying to keep his emotions in check as he see his mother fight. "It's way too early to compare Dustin to Tiger, but it reminds me of Tiger in 2000".
