Trump to host China's Xi at Florida resort next week

A host of contentious issues in bilateral relations, including Trump's claims about China's unfair trade practices, curbing North Korea's nuclear ambitions and American concerns about Chinese military ambitions in the South China Sea are expected to be discussed between the two leaders.

China's President Xi Jinping will visit President Trump in Palm Beach, Fla., on April 6 and 7.

China's non-market economy status is considered an irritant for Beijing as the Trump administration works on trade policies aimed at reducing the flow of Chinese imports in to the United States.

"We can't continue to allow China to rape our country, and that's what they're doing", Trump said during a rally in Fort Wayne, Ind., last summer, when he floated a 45 percent tariff on Chinese goods.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit the U.S next week, the White House and the Chinese government announced on Thursday. China is North Korea's most important source of diplomatic support and economic assistance.

The timing of the meeting appears tricky, with a USA review of China's market-economy status under the World Trade Organization expected to be announced as early as this week.

Considering the trade imbalances between both countries, Lu said 40 percent of China's trade surplus with the United States came from USA companies in China.

Relations between the US and China have been uncertain since Trump's election.

According to statistics from the U.S. Xi congratulated Trump on winning the election, while the US president told his Chinese counterpart he would honor the One China Policy, in which Taiwan is recognized as part of a greater China.

Trump has referred to the estate as his "Southern White House" and used it to receive foreign political leaders, business leaders and other VIP guests.

"It's better to meet earlier than late from a strategic perspective-especially an earlier meeting can help shape his China policy", Ni said.
