Two days after Kohli said his friendship with Australian cricketers was over following an acrimonios Border-Gavaskar series, the Indian captain insisted his comments had been blown out of proportion.
Australia will also take heart from the fact they were the only team to beat India in their 13-test home season and Smith, the leading scorer of the series with 499 runs, led by example.
Six weeks of accusations, squabbles and controversy ended on Tuesday when India completed a 2-1 win of the heated four-Test series against Australia. There are series where you're disappointed because things didn't go your way, or you're delighted because things did go your way, but you have to be bigger than that.
"He's a great player and he's probably a bloke you would love to have on your side, but watching it from afar and watching him in other colours, you just think, "What a flog".
"It would be "pretty dirty" of Kohli if he turns out for the IPL opening match as Royal Challengers Bangalore captain against David Warner's Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 5", Hodge, the coach of IPL side Gujarat Lions, was quoted by Daily Telegraph as having told Fox Sports News' Gameday Live.
Meanwhile, former Test players Brendon Julian and Brad Haddin have also questioned Kohli carrying drinks at breaks on Day One of the fourth Test.
Australia may have surrendered the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to India yesterday but skipper Steve Smith is happy with the progress his team have made since their home defeat to South Africa late previous year.
Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav made his debut in the test match becoming the first Left-arm chinaman bowler to play for the Indian team.. "You won't hear me say that ever again".
When asked by an Australian scribe about friendship with the cricketers from Down Under, Kohli gave a no-holds-barred response.
India maintains its lead as the number one Test team with a rating of 122 points, while Australia is second with 108 points.
In the final Test, India's Ravindra Jadeja exchanged words with Australian wicketkeeper Matthew Wade while Smith, according to the Cricket Australia website, was seen on TV mouthing abuse after Murali Vijay did not catch Josh Hazlewood cleanly but still appealed. "It was a well -fought series and we all played good cricket".
"I like taking responsibility, every game that I play for India is an opportunity to do something special with my skills", he said.
This was their fourth consecutive Test series win against Australia since 2004-2005.
However, buttressing his views in general on players trying to keep themselves fit for IPL, Hodge said, "It's happened before".
The rancour between the sides was inflamed in the drawn third Test in Ranchi when Glenn Maxwell was pictured mocking Kohli's shoulder injury.
