Two children killed in Buckingham County crash

Virginia State Police say two children were killed when they were struck by a tractor-trailer near a school bus stop.

Geller said a tractor trailer traveling along Route 15 struck the two children as they were "approaching the school bus".

The road remains closed while State Police take a closer look at the scene.

State Police are not releasing identities of the children yet, but a relative tells various sources the little is 5-year old Tori Perez.

The two children died at the scene, at 7:42 a.m., Thursday, March 30.

Geller said no charges will be brought against the truck driver. State Police said that the truck was loaded down with 75,000 pounds of mulch.

She says the bus driver unsuccessfully tried to motion the young children back to the side of the road.

The school system has counselors at all of the county's schools on Thursday.

The school's superintendent said that he estimates about 20 kids were on the bus at the time of the accident.

"Our superintendent has understandably been working through this situation first-hand and is unavailable at the moment. The superintendent wants everyone to keep us in their prayers during these times", representatives said in a statement.
