Samsung unwraps much-awaited Galaxy S8 duo

The new phones will also have Bixby, Samsung's new mobile AI personal assistant.

Bixby can search restaurants, take screenshots and even book a cab for you all while transitioning between voice and touch seamlessly.

The tech giant has put in the best combination of hardware and features available to date in the device. Galaxy S8 features a 5.8-inch display while the Plus version has a 6.2-inch screen, and they nearly entirely cover the front of the device edge to edge. It has an 8MP auto-focus front shooter.

Water and dust resistance: Both phones have an IP68 water and dust resistance rating.

Boasting some of the largest wrap-around screens ever made, the long-awaited S8 is the South Korean technology company's first new premium phone since its September recall of all Galaxy Note 7 smartphones equipped with fire-prone batteries. Although the home, recent and back key arrangement remains the same, the button can now be triggered by touching the display. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor along with 4GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage. The side bezels are barely seen, additionally, Samsung has significantly thinned the above and lower bezel, taking more space for the screen.

The Galaxy S8 battery is a 3000mAH affair and Samsung's still showing faith in the good ol' 3.5mm headphone jack (which is on the bottom of the handset), despite the presence of a USB Type-C socket.

Headphone jack: Don't worry; the S8 and S8+ still have the headphone jack. Samsung that had launched the Note 7 previous year came with faulty batteries that made the phones explode or catch fire. Samsung has confirmed that it will offer its new Gear VR with controller for free with each eligible purchase of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus. At 155g, it's only 3 grams heavier, and about 6.5mm larger, yet has an impressive 5.8-inch screen compared to the 5-inch screen on the Galaxy S7. The phonemaker is also making a big bet on its AI assistant bot, Bixby.

At MWC in Barcelona this year, Samsung announced its innovative "I&G (Infill & Growth) Project" for Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd that will help expand both the current network capacity as well as network coverage.
