Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition Makes An All-Time Classic Way More Playable

Well, there's still about 4 hours left on the countdown as of this writing, but it looks like the cat is out of the bag early as noted by PC Gamer and indeed there is a Planescape: Torment Enhanced Edition port in our futures.

Torment, one of the most highly-regarded RPG's of all time, is getting a spruced up re-release next month. This is the developer behind the recent Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale enhanced editions that really whet our whistles.

Conversations to Remember: Encounter personable items, philosophic undead, and rat hiveminds while walking the planes with the strangest collection of allies ever seen in an RPG. The Nameless One can change his class, alignment, and even gain new abilities based on your choices. The game will apparently feature "No load times", a zooming feature and a "high definition interface" according to Beamdog.

Beamdog has announced that it is to release a remastered version of classic Advanced Dungeons & Dragons computer role-playing game (CRPG) Planescape: Torment, released back in 1999 by Interplay and developed by the noted and sadly defunct Black Isle Studio.

Meanwhile, Beamdog has made a name for itself by taking classic PC RPGs and giving them a reverential treatment, making them playable on modern devices and adding quality of life improvements to enhance the experience while protecting the core mechanics to keep the experience faithful to the original.

There are optional enhancements too, like character outlines, tab highlighting, and area zoom. You should also check out the changelog RPS captured from the webpage, there are some rather amusing notes found within for those who have played the game before. Find it on Beamdog, Steam, GOG, iTunes, and Google Play.

Play It Your Way: Enable Enhanced Edition features as you desire or turn them off to experience Planescape: Torment in its original glory.
