Ozil, Sanchez want to stay at Arsenal, says Arsene Wenger

The Chilean worldwide left Barcelona and made a switch to north London in 2014, a year later the World Cup victor with Germany signed for the Gunners from Real Madrid.

Both Sanchez and German playmaker Mesut Ozil are stalling over new contracts, but Wenger expressed confidence they will both elect to stay at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal fans will, not for the first time in recent years, have found themselves little the wiser on the key issues around the football club after Arsene Wenger's press conference this morning.

Chilean Sanchez was quoted in his homeland saying: "I'm happy in London [home of both Arsenal and current Premier League leaders Chelsea] and I want to finish my contract".

"I think once you go in the final two or three months of the season everybody is more focused on the end of the season", added Wenger. You give yourself a moment to relax.

Although seemingly, and suddenly, fit again, Sanchez could still start Sunday's game against Manchester City on the bench.

Fears of possible ligament damage were soon forgotten, however, as the forward twice played a full 90 minutes for Chile during the global break, matching Marcelo Salas's goalscoring record for La Roja in a 3-1 win over Venezuela on Tuesday. "He has worked very hard this week".

The Premier League football returns after two weeks of worldwide break as Arsenal take on Manchester City in their next clash. He wants to stay in London with Arsenal but he wants the Gunners to be a team that has a winning mentality and will challenge for the major trophies. The former Barcelona ace's comments led to speculation that he could swap Arsenal for Chelsea, who are also based in London.

"You always have to be cautious when people give interviews in their home countries because the interpretation is not always what they wanted to say".

Asked for his thoughts about what Alexis said, he said he viewed them, " ...in a very positive way, there's only team in London so he's happy", he said. He said he wants to win the championship, that's what everybody wants.

"That I am a World Cup victor, played for Real Madrid, set up 20 goals last season [in all competitions]".

Ozil said: "I started strongly but - like the team in general - have not kept up my performance".
