McConnell Says Gorsuch Will Be Confirmed In The Coming Days

Democratic opposition to President Donald Trump's U.S. Supreme Court nominee grew on Monday while the White House demanded a "fair, up-or-down vote" in the Senate on confirming Neil Gorsuch to the lifetime post.

"If Schumer wants to trigger the nuclear option, I would quote Clint Eastwood with those immortal words: "Make My Day", because it would be a disaster for the Democrats", Krauthammer said.

The Republican-controlled Senate is expected to vote on the Gorsuch nomination next week.

Judge Gorsuch has proven he has the legal aptitude and temperament to serve of the nation's highest court.

At the same time, though, Democratic activists in Missouri and elsewhere are pressing McCaskill to oppose Gorsuch - with some arguing it's payback after Republicans refused to even hold a hearing a year ago on Judge Merrick Garland, then-president Barack Obama's pick to fill the late Justice Antonin Scalia's seat.

"If they're so quick to change the rules this time, they'll be quick to change them next time", Schumer, of NY, said at a news conference.

On Thursday, Casey said that he would not vote for Gorsuch, citing his "serious concerns" over the judge's "rigid and restrictive judicial philosophy". "I will vote no when his nomination comes before the Judiciary Committee next week, I will vote no on cloture, and I'll oppose his nomination on the Senate floor".

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has stated that he intends to filibuster Gorsuch and more than a dozen fellow Senate Democrats have suggested that they would participate in the filibuster.

"I have said all along that Gorsuch deserved a hearing and some kind of vote on the floor", McCaskill said.

A liberal group that was formed to fight for the confirmation of Judge Merrick G. Garland to the Supreme Court is now trying to derail President Trump's nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch.

McConnell says Gorsuch is "extraordinarily well qualified" to sit on the Supreme Court, and predicts he will be confirmed.

He added on changing the rules: "If that's what it takes, then that's what it takes".

But McConnell said "we are optimistic that they will not be successful in keeping this good man from joining the Supreme Court very soon".

"My hope is that Democrats will quit gloating at our inability to get it done on a party-line basis and join us in fixing" Obama's law, Sen. We'll see where that ends.

But he's also girding Senate Republicans for battle and has signaled he's willing to do anything to deliver a much-needed win for the GOP, reported Politico.
