Earth Hour to be celebrated tonight

Drogheda Tidy Towns are kindly requesting that you please take the time to "switch off" on Saturday 25th March from 8:30 to 9:30 pm. This largest social movement was first initiated in Australia in the year 2007, and now it spread to more than 170 countries.

In a message on the eve of Earth Hour, he said this movement is an attempt at protecting the environment; by taking small steps like these we aim to create the world with a better environment.

Numerous world's most famous landmarks were plunged into darkness on Saturday night to mark Earth Hour, a global campaign to highlight climate change.

The Westin Resort Guam is participating by turning off exterior signage lighting; dimming and turning off non-essential interior lighting; using candlelight in several public areas such as the lobby and restaurants; and informing guests about Earth Hour observances. Earth Hour 2017 marks the ten years of the milestone.

As the official national coordinator for Earth Hour 2017 in Azerbaijan, IDEA and Azerbaijani representative office of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF Azerbaijan) encouraged everyone to take part, show support, and join in to take action on climate change.

What is Earth Hour and When it is started?

Siddarth Das, Executive Director, Earth Hour Global said: "We started Earth Hour to make a statement".

Prominent landmarks that have signed up this year include Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, Big Ben along with UNESCO World Heritage sites like the Acropolis in Athens and Edinburgh Castle. "People suffer from climate change and people are ultimately going to solve climate change". To get involved in Earth Day, turn off your lights for one hour at 8:30 pm.

Eskom also urged South Africans to conserve energy beyond the event, and integrate it into their daily lives.
