Aditya Nath Yogi among BJP star campaigners

After the Hindu right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in Uttar Pradesh this month on the back of a resounding electoral victory and named a Hindu priest-cum-politician as the state's chief minister, the government began cracking down on illegal slaughterhouses and meat shops.

"For the past few years Uttar Pradesh has been defined as a state from whose boundaries begins darkness, from where the pot-holed roads begin and the place from where the women start to feel insecure". This pattern of behaviour seems to indicate a settled policy of indifference and impunity on part of sitting government to inflame communal violence as a matter of routine.

"He made it very clear that the anti-Romeo squad which was very essential in Uttar Pradesh is not to harass the couples or students or girls who are speaking with mutual consent".

The five-time MP from Gorakhpur, who was sworn in as the 21st chief minister of Uttar Pradesh on 19th of this month, has been staying at the VVIP Guest House.

March 29: Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev on Wednesday praised the Uttar Pradesh Government for its decision to close all illegal slaughter house.

Minister Siddharth Nath Singh has also cautioned officials against shutting down establishments for minor fixes like CCTVs etc. "Vigilantism by police is unacceptable", said Mr Singh, urging officials to not be "overexcited" in crackdown.

"If I had said no, then it would mean that I am looking for an escape route".

Addressing an event to felicitate him, he repeated the mantra of "sabka saath, sabka vikas". "There won't be any discrimination based on caste, religion, and gender", he assured.

Gorakhpur: In his first public appearance after taking over as UP CM Yogi Adityanath on Saturday he will ensure a corruption-free government and put an end to "goonda raj".

On the issue of loss of livelihood, Patra said, "If there is large-scale disruption, the state government will look at it and resolve the issue".

To make the system more transparent he also asked departments to adopt e-tendering and keep tainted firms and contractors with mafia links, criminal records and corrupt image away from departmental works.


To boost the morale of the police force and instill fear among those in a limbo, the chief minister paid a surprise visit to the Hazratganj police station and reached there even before top officials.
