Washington Wizards top Los Angeles Lakers to clinch Southeast Division

Throughout his National Basketball Association career, John Wall has seemingly had his way when facing the Lakers averaging 23.6 points and 12.6 assists in 10 career games, which are his highest totals against any team.

Washington clinched a division title (Southeast) for the first time in 38 years and swept the regular-season series for the sixth time in Lakers' franchise history.

"I don't know what it means now with the changes that they made the last couple years", Brooks said about winning the division.

"We had a little water bottle fight in here", a smiling Bradley Beal said after a 119-108 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.

The win kept Washington two games behind the Boston Celtics and 1 1/2 behind the Cleveland Cavaliers in the race for the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

D'Angelo Russell scored 20 of his 28 points in the first half for the Lakers, who lost to the Wizards for the fifth straight time on their home court.

Russell led Los Angeles with 28 points and Jordan Clarkson added 22 points.

The Wizards opened the fourth quarter with a 11-0 run, turning what was a comfortable lead for the Lakers rather uncomfortable. The New York Islanders are just one year behind them with their last division title coming in 1987-88. "(Washington) picked the pressure up. and they cut into that lead without really even having to get hot". With the San Antonio Spurs creeping up on the Warriors in the West, it's anticipated the Warriors will not rest any starters when the Wizards visit them Sunday night. "We have a lot of young guys who are learning that.in the fourth quarter, in winning time, the intensity gets to a whole other level". Although he played on Friday against Minnesota, Ingram sat out the entire fourth quarter and overtime period after feeling more pain in his knee.

"This is valuable time for him", Walton said. "They scored off of our missed shots, turnovers and they got transition baskets". The Lakers are 31-40 at the betting window overall, which includes a 15-19 ATS record at home this year.

"We were making shots; we were getting stops", Clarkson said. Walton said he thought Russell played a "brilliant" offensive game and complimented him for his activity on the defensive end.
