Priebus a central figure in Trump's White House drama

We never said it was ideal.

Trump initially focused blame for the measure's failure on Democrats and predicted a dire future for the current law.

The president's presence at the Trump National Golf Club wasn't a secret.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer pushed back on the reports, telling reporters Trump was reviewing "logistics" for his upcoming press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who Trump hosted at the club on Saturday, Feb. 11.

"By conducting discussions in this manner, the president enabled private citizens without security clearances to potentially overhear sensitive or classified national security information", they said.

He said Democrats stood ready to work with Trump to fix the Affordable Care Act if he is willing to drop attempts to repeal the law and not undermine it.

"What is he hiding?" asked Rep. Bill Pascrell, D-N.J.

At the request of four Democrats in the Congress, the Government Accountability Office has agreed to formally review how much money the feds spend, and what security precautions are taken, when President Donald Trump takes a weekend away at his Mar-a-Lago retreat in Palm Beach, Florida. The same White House aide who admitted Trump could have done a better job courting conservatives told me there's practically no reason to consider the demands of the Freedom Caucus or its chairman, North Carolina's Mark Meadows, on anything important again.

"I think it is absolutely essential for the president's tax returns to be released so that the members of the Judiciary Committee can do their job to research whether the Emoluments Clause has been violated and whether permission should be given to the president to receive payments from foreign states", Lofgren said.

Priebus said Trump was not backing off his view that the tax reform bill needed a border tax.

Speaking on ABC's "This Week", the NY senator says: "We never said it was flawless".

"I don't think the president is closing the door on anything", he said. "And, by the way, my prediction, it wouldn't get the votes on either the Democratic or Republican side". The White House has refused to respond to the lawmakers' various inquiries and calls for increased transparency. According to the New York Times, White House chief strategist Steve Bannon is already meeting with members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus and the more moderate Tuesday Group, in an effort to hash out a compromise between the bitterly divided factions of the Republican caucus.

Last Friday, House Republicans couldn't muster the votes for their marquee legislation to repeal and replace the health care law and pulled it off the floor in an embarrassing setback for Trump and Speaker Paul Ryan.

Ryan spokeswoman AshLee Strong said the relationship between the president and the speaker remained strong.

Trump's effort last week to win approval of the Republican replacement bill for Obamacare collapsed when hard-right conservatives and some centrist Republicans objected to the measure. "I want us to become a unified majority", Ryan told reporters.
